The Kadir I. Natho Short Story Prize

The Short Story Competition in Circassian language (Kabardian dialect) is named after the well-known author and Circassian Activist Mr. Kadir I. Natho (Къадыр Натхъо).

The Short Story Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) is established by the Circassian Repatriation Organization (CRO) registered in Canada in collaboration with the Adyghe Language and Literature Teachers Association named after Kazi Atazhukin registered in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

Goals and Objectives of the Competition:

The aim of the Competition is to raise awareness of the importance of the mother tongue and motivate the younger generations understand the value of their native language. Help them respect their mother tongue, have the desire to learn it, and utilize it in their communications and conversations.

 

The Mission and Purpose of this Competition

This Competition is designed to strengthen the positive attitude of the younger generations toward their native language as the most important spiritual value; identify gifted teenagers and young students, increase their ability to creatively exploit the richness of the Circassian language in accordance with the proposed conditions. Moreover, the Competition is expected to help enhance the skills of the students in the field of literature and expression and in creating an ingenious texts as well as in employing the native language in creating novel short stories and developing their spoken and written language skills.

 

Dates of the Competition:

July 15 to September 15, 2020.

 

Participants of the Competition:

The Competition consists of two tiers.

• The first tier (I) is intended for grad 9 to grad 11 students (General Educational Institutions Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and Karachay-Cherkess Republic (KCR)) – aged 14 to 17.
• The second tier (II) is intended for secondary and higher educational institutions students (General Educational Institutions Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and Karachay-Cherkess Republic (KCR)) – aged up to 25.

 

Storyline of the Competition:

The topic of the competition is open. The authors are free to pick the topic of their Stories. Simultaneous submissions and previously published work are acceptable.

 

Evaluation Criteria:

The evaluation of the submitted works will be carried out according to the following criteria:

• The suitability of the title to the submitted story;
• The conformity of the characteristics of the selected genre;
• The originality of the main idea of the work;
• The composition of the work;
• The artistic originality and speech design of the work;
• The use of expressive “figuratively-expressive” means.

 

 

Guideline and Requirements:

The work must be submitted in the format of a word document. Adjust the page size to A-4 format and set the font style to Times New Roman and the font size to 14 and finally set the line spacing to 1.15. The length of the short story should be no less than 3 Pages.

 

The Competition Prizes:

The winners of the Competition will be announced on or before October 10^th, 2020. The winners will be awarded according to the following:

 

Winners of the Tier I (grades 9 to 11)

First Place: 10,000 Rubles

Second Place: 5,000 Rubles

Third Place: 3,000 Rubles

 

Winners of the Tier I (grades 9 to 11)

First Place: 20,000 Rubles

Second Place: 10,000 Rubles

Third Place: 7,000 Rubles

 

The celebration of the winners of this Competition will be organized by the CRO and the award ceremony will be arranged by the Association of Adyghe Language and Literature Teachers named after Kazi Atazhukina.

 

• All participants of the competition will receive “Certificate of Participation”.
• The teachers of all winners of the competition will receive “Honor Certificates”.

 

The Evaluation Jury:

The jury will consist of no more than 5 Judges.

The Association of Adyghe Language and Literature Teachers named after Kazi Atazhukina will be responsible for selecting and constructing the jury.

 

The Publication of Awarded Pieces:

The Awarded Pieces will be published on the official website of the CRO and the Association of Adyghe Language and Literature Teachers named after Kazi Atazhukina and these will be announced through the media “CMI”
